OOoooo, a Shiny! by keight OOoooo, a Shiny! by keight
:icondonotplz::iconusemyartplz:

Line art inked in Photoshop CS4, printed onto 140lb cold press watercolor paper, and painted with acrylic washes. I used a palette restricted to yellow oxide, chromium oxide green, pthalocyanine blue, quinacridone magenta, and a couple of small touches of titanium white. This is a scanned copy. The size of the painting is 7.5" by 14" It has been an interesting experiment. I realized as I posted this that I hadn't painted the flower buds. That may not be a bad thing.

Please excuse me for spamming you all with this again. This scanned image gives you a much better representation of the painting. Enjoy.

Again, please excuse me for spamming you all with this. I tweaked the color on the stick pin and the eye because they were way too dark. Enjoy.

For grins, and because it is in the scrapbook again, here's the original color version: [link]

Oh, my gosh, this is so lovely! Such delicate lines, and wonderful colors and details.

I take it you had the outlines laser-printed? I assume inkjet ink would run when you paint it.

Thank you very much for those kind words.

I scanned the line-art into Photoshop CS4. Then I printed it onto Strathmore Water Color Paper with my Epson Photo Stylus 1900 printer. Copics and water based paints do not make these Epson inks run; however Sharpie Accent Highlighters, which I use when I'm doing the bookkeeping, do cause the ink to bleed. This happens to be version two, as I printed the lines at the wrong opacity the first time and mucked up the first test; which promptly became the color test sheet for the final. More room for making color combination and mixing notes. :D

Interesting. Thank you for explaining. I've heard of an artist having his outlines professionally printed on watercolor paper, but I just leaped to the conclusion that home printer inks would smear when wet. Apparently I was mistaken. Perhaps I'll give it a try myself some time.

I find your entire gallery delightful, first for the pictures themselves, and secondarily because you provide so much info on your techniques and materials. I appreciate it very much when other artists are so generous with their knowledge.

"I just leaped to the conclusion that home printer inks would smear when wet." That depends entirely on the composition of the printer brand and the inks developed for them. :D Research, research, research is the key.

I've been freelancing, around family crises, for over 14 years; while working at various small jobs in the field of graphics since the early 70s.

Lovely work, Katherine.  Unfortunately I do not possess the imagination to create creatures of fantasy, but I admire those who can. :icondragongrin:

Thank you. It is a small jeweled pin; about the size of a corsage, or boutonniere, pin.
