Copics of various sorts and white gel pen, over a Photoshop CS4 line art print on 80 pound cover stock, of a goldfish I drew for this test. This is going to AX 2009.

EDIT: After posting, I finished another version of this little fellow with a lighter setting on the lines, and denser colors throughout. Why? Because it needed to be done. They are both going to AX 2009.

EDIT 2: Both versions sold.

Kate,
you did a wonderful artwork here.
How you let change the colors of the goldfish from the almost pure white of the tail to the bright and dark orange at his mouth is very smart and beautiful. I also enjoy that the bubles are not really round, but allcurved and have the highlights. Another wonderful clever idea is that you painted the tail a bit translucent.
The only little nitpick I have is the blue, especially at the upper fin. I can see where the copic marker stopped and started. I have no idea how you can do this different, but it looks a bit like a halo...
But overall, Kate, a really beautiful artwork!

This lovely graphic is the perfect example of style, delicacy, balance, great use of colour and space. It has a sweetness about it; and displays the movement, energy and personality that makes one desire to own an image. One gets a feel of the solidity of the body of the fish, while the transparent fins and tail move delightfully, almost dancing the fish through the water elegantly. What I like most is the simplicity of strokes and design, the bubbles creating the final great touch. My one suggestion would be one of contrast between the fish and the water. I think the impact would be greater, if the water were slightly darker. Yet, I would be glad to bring a print home to keep the spirit of this fine fellow nearby, as it is.

Thank you. I've been so busy painting lately, I've come close to falling asleep at my keyboard. Congratulations on your two shows, my dear. My apologies for not saying that sooner. I will have to try harder to comment on your posts and find out how they went.

 :D The full-time Mom part is why I'm so busy, and why the paintings are taking soooo long. :D

Lushly beautiful and fantastically well composed; the bubbles are pure enchantment, but the sweeping contours of the fins are fantastic; even the watermark complements the action instead of obscuring it...
